Culture in Martin
Without any doubt, the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin is definitely number one here when it comes to the art scene. Unfortunately, all of the plays are in the Slovak language. However, someone also said that the language of art is universal. Would you agree?
Anyways, there’s always other places to go.
How about museums? On the outskirts of Martin there is the beautiful Museum of the Slovak Village situated in nature. A famous Slovak painter Martin Benka has his exhibition in Martin, or there’s the lovely Ethnographic Museum, and it is all part of the overall tour when visiting the Slovak National Museum in Martin. In the summer, try movies or events in local amphitheater.

Sport activities in and around
Besides hiking, directly in Martin you can entertain yourself at the outdoor Segoland climbing park. Fun for the whole family.
If you’re a biker, there’s a biking trail right in front of the apartment building, and it crosses the whole city. From Martin it’s not far to the mountains where you can enjoy a number of great bike trails. We recommend Gaderská Valley which continues to Dedošova Valley.
And of course, winter is dedicated to skiing! Martinské Hole, Jasenská Valley, Valčianska Valley. To Vrátna Valley it’s not even one hour drive. But worth it. These resorts have good infrastructure and besides winter holidays they offer many attractions and a good time during the summer, as well.

Discover the nature surrounding Martin
Hooray for hiking! And in every season. You just need good hiking boots or crampons and a ski mountaineering set during the winter. There’s an incredible number of options in the surroundings of Martin. Great Fatra National Park, Low Fatra National Park, Strážovské Mountains. We highly recommend hiking on peaks Tlstá, Ostrá, Chleb or you can do feratta to Martinské hole. Kids can definitely manage the Gaderská valley, Mountain Chalet Kľačianska Magura, Zniev Hill or Teplické Serpentins. Good tips for hiking can be found at this site Turističky. For sure you can find many places to go there. A good app you can download for hiking is called: S batohom cez hory. It contains an English language option too Hiking Map.
Where to eat well here
If you like cooking, then Apartment Pohoda has everything you need for having comfort while cooking your favorite meal.
But if you like to discover local gastronomy then we highly recommend these places:
Hostinec u Jakuba Cozy place and they make the best pizza in Martin.
A great cuisine plus their own beer they also offer here at Česka Hospoda.
Asian food is tasty at Nhabe but also here New Bijing.
For coffee and pastry places we recommend Idylika Coffee or U kocúra. The ice cream is great at Hugo Coffee in Galeria Shopping Mall or get a really tasty one not far from the apartment building on the square called Námestie francúzskych partizánov.
Go to Wellness & Spa
Also in the Martin region we ‘preserve’ the traditional Slovak spa and wellness culture. The number one spa in the region, but undoubtedly in Slovakia too, is the Spa Aphrodite in a town called Rajecké Teplice. It has amazing outdoor and indoor pools with a sauna world, it is absolutely a must if you’re spa freaks like we are. Highly recommend it. It’s 45 minutes’ drive but it is worth it.
Other places which are a bit closer but still provide really good relaxation are Hotel Impozant in Valčianska Valley, Hotel Victoria in Martin, Pension Ferrata or Pension Marko.
Another beautiful and luxury spa is situated in the town of Turčianske Teplice , and within this area there’s also a nice small aquapark where you can have fun together with your kids Aquapark.
